The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

November 30, 2017

Death narrates a moving story about a girl in Nazi Germany.

Beautiful and unexpected. No simple perspectives, characters, or even conclusions; the narrator and charming asides maintained a unique tone and pacing, and the story itself centered around characters that seemed like they easily might have lived. Predictably somber given the context, but surprisingly heartwarming and funny at times as well.
