The Short Drop by Matthew FitzSimmons

March 1, 2016

A hell of a first novel.

I can’t believe how quickly I raced through this story! It was intriguing, suspenseful, and masterfully composed. Gritty, nuanced characters, a range of subtleties that made it fun to read and not formulaic or obvious, and a burning premise that maintained its momentum throughout.

While I probably shouldn’t blab on about details, I was thoroughly impressed at the amount of detail and accuracy given to technological matter. Normally these things seem overplayed to the point of distraction, or so poorly considered that authenticity takes a dive. Not here.

I’ll be reading Matthew FitzSimmons’ next novel.
