The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson

July 3, 2022

A series of arguments for thoughtfully choosing where to invest time and energy.

I really enjoyed this despite a few personal objections to advice that’s not been healthy for me in the past. (I spent vastly more time feeling called out specifically and repeatedly by his characterizations.) Manson’s fouth-mouthed, blunt writing style was refreshing, challenging, and entertaining.

Self-awareness is like an onion. There are multiple layers to it, and the more you peel them back, the more likely you’re going to start crying at inappropriate times.

I highlighted loads of material from this book that’s left me with plenty to laugh at and think about. This isn’t the most profound of them but it pretty well sums up the book:

Most of us struggle throughout our lives by giving too many fucks in situations where fucks do not deserve to be given.
